IMG_4038[1]A couple of years ago, I vowed never to do the Bridge Run… it just happened to be a year where they had some sort of complication with traffic and the runners ended up in the starting corrals for over an hour more than intended.  I totally get it:  how difficult it is to shut down a major thoroughfare, especially a high profile one as the Ravenelle Bridge, but it just wasn’t my year as far as running that event.  The next year, they limited the participants to avoid the calamity that was the year before, but as all things in life – it’s a learning experience for us all.  For me, I learned that I don’t really do “big” races well and would rather have a small, hometown-race with only a couple hundred participants.

Anyways… my race rant aside…  A couple years after my first Bridge Run experience, I submitted some artwork for the logo design contest they hold annually.  There are a lot of entries… and it makes it fun for the local community to participate.  I saw some really great kid’s renderings of the iconic bridge.  Usually a professional designer wins the contest – which I totally get, but it would be interesting to see who and what the selection committee is comprised of.  Needless to say, I’ve submitted multiple years… the first couple of times actually sending my paintings down to Charleston.  The non-winning submissions are then auctioned off in an event that raises money for the event.  This year, I changed my approach and photographed my painting and inserted text on it in a program to have it then printed on foam core.

My entry is currently on the way down to Mt. Pleasant, but we will see how it goes.  Thank you to the kind folks at FedEx Kinkos that helped me get it printed and shipped.  I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed for when the selection committee rules at the end of the month :)
