Focus on Portraits

My goal this year is to focus more on people, faces, expressions, and all things up close and personal.  The other day I was thumbing through my gallery and I definitely noticed the lack of portraits I have.  I am hoping to change this trend in 2011.  Why not start off by trying my hand on the 2011 Australian Open Champion: Novak Djokovic.  I did spend some time in Asia in the month of January so it was the first time I didn't have to stay up at odd hours of the night to watch tennis coverage of the first grand slam of the year.

This painting ended up being small:  9x12... so next time I will have to maybe work with a larger canvas to really get more facial details in.  There is only so much a tiny brush can do.

Next up in my portrait line up, the female 2011 Aussie Open Champ.  It was very nice to see Kim Clijsters win her first Australian Open title and officially earn her nickname:  "Aussie Kim".  Hope I can do her justice in trying to capture the moment.
