2019: New Beginnings – And Crafts!

2019: New Beginnings – And Crafts!

Prologue:

I’m going to be completely honest:  it’s been a crazy decade.  I really wished I had more time to spend on developing more works, but I am very blessed to be where I am at today even though there have been very difficult months and years.  Instead of looking back at “lost time,” my plan is to look forward and see if I can create more in 2019.  Switching engineering firms earlier this year, was much needed, but also felt like I was “starting over.”  Here’s to new beginnings and a more productive 2019 (creation-wise).

CRAFTS!:

Recently found the embroidery to be super relaxing after taking a craft class from Crowned Sparrow.  Not my first class offered by CS, but the introduction to the world of hoops, floss, and needles was much needed since I had only dabbled in sewing buttons and minor clothing fixes.  The craft was a small piece with simple block letters.  The negative space between the letters and the embroidery was the easy part.  Using the back-stitch and stain stitch filled out the background.  Here’s the piece (in progress) and the final product.  My first adventure into the world of embroidery.

Later inspiration was a group craft project where we filled out the states that we’ve have visited.  Also prompting me to realize how much of the middle of America I have not been to yet.   Used a large, 14″ hoop, choice of grey fabric, and a variety of embroidery floss.  The materials were rather inexpensive, but you pay your dues with the time spent tracing out the map, outlining all the states, doing the lettering, and then choosing the colors you want to fill in the states with.  It’s a great project to do with friends and catch up or do alone, while watching movies/tv.

My current craft project will double in use as an award.  I’ll try to keep track of the progress on here.  I will do my best to post more on this blog, now that things have calmed down in life.  Cheers to more crafting!
