Supplies!

Supplies!

Similar to cooking, your art really is dependent on the supplies (or ingredients) you use.  I figured I would write a little about my favorite supply stores in Charlotte.  And also:  SUPPLIES!!  It’s the second week in a row that I’ve posted on this blog.  Hooray for new, long-lasting habits.

Long have I had a love-affair and relationship with Cheap Joe’s.  I still remember their location on Monroe Road, they moved down to Sardis Rd (near the new Wal-Mart… at least “new” when it was built) and now they are in SouthEnd, which is my neck of the woods.

If my memory serves me right, I think Cheap Joe’s started out in Boone, NC and has since expanded to Charlotte.  “Art is for everyone” and I think making supplies affordable is a great way to aid people in creating their works.  In  the era of online shopping, I think it’s great to still go to the store and get a feel for the products.  You can order online from Cheap Joe’s, but there’s a great sense of community you get whenever you walk through the brick and mortar doors to greet fellow artists (if attending classes) or just the wonderful people that work there.  Some of that community gets a little lost in the “BIG BOX” stores and competitors that offer more than just art supplies.

You can probably find me at Cheap Joe’s, most likely grabbing supplies.  I’m pretty much a get in and get out shopper so you may need to camp out to catch a glimpse, but I definitely recommend this place to other folks all the time.  Yes, mainly for supplies, but I think it’s important to have “go to” places that help creativity and inspiration happen.

Here’s a link to their website and a little video about their business:  https://www.cheapjoes.com/about
